Environmental Impact Assessment
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) became a European statutory obligation for certain categories of industrial and commercial development in 1986. However, we have been involved in the assessment of theaquatic environmental impacts of new developments for over 30 years.

Our service, based on this long experience, encompasses all stages of EIA:
  • Site identification
  • Identification of sensitive species
  • Design advice
  • Field survey
  • Liason with interested parties
  • Data analysis
  • Interpretation of regulatory requirements
  • Support documentation
  • Preparation of Environmental Statements
  • Advice on mitigation and creative conservation
  • Establishment of monitoring procedures
  • Representation at Inquiries
  • Construction phase monitoring
  • Post-development auditing
We have experience of large industrial developments, giving us the ability to define in advance the relevant interactions which require assessment; specialized databases and expert systems, together with support literature which allow rapid and comprehensive assessment of habitats, communities and species of potential concern. We can thus assess rapidly the priorities for an EIA.

  • Field survey facilities cover benthic, planktonic, plant and fish sampling, with support data gathering (for example sediment type, water chemistry, topography). We have comprehensive taxonomic expertise for reliable sample analysis and validation of voucher material.
  • Experience of EIA documentation allows the preparation of necessary reports in a clear, comprehensive and understandable style.
  • Experience of techniques for developing habitats of conservation merit to mitigate development effects, for example artificial reefs or brackish lagoons, is unique. We can offer advice on industrial design with environmental sensitivity.
  • Field and laboratory facilities enable us to maintain a full monitoring program once a development is operational.
